I have the honour to submit for Your Lordship's consideration the question of whether the services of the gentlemen who sat on the Commission which recently enquired into the administration of the Sanitary Laws and the existence of corruption in the Sanitary Department, and whose report was forwarded to Your Lordship in my Confidential Despatch of the 29th ultimo, should be recognised in a more special manner than by the usual formal letter of thanks which was sent to each of the Commissioners by this Government on the receipt of their report.

2. The Commissioners sat for 10 months and devoted an immense amount of time and labour to their work, which, in so far as it related to the enquiry into the existence of corruption, was rendered exceedingly difficult and tedious owing to the reluctance of
